Who this policy covers
This policy explains how featherScroll handles information when you read articles, use website features or contact us. featherScroll is an independent publication operated by a solo publisher. Public reading does not require an account.

Information we handle
Website visits and technical information
Hosting and service providers process technical information needed to deliver and protect the website. This can include IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, browser and device information, and diagnostic logs.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics and Umami to measure visits, pages viewed, article and navigation clicks, “Surprise me” selections, and time spent on visible, focused pages. Analytics can process browser and device information, screen resolution, language, referring pages, approximate location, and visitor or session identifiers. IP addresses may be processed to estimate location.
Analytics can measure visits across supported browsers on computers, phones and tablets; account sign-in is not required. Google Analytics events are sent through our server. Some identifiers can connect visits from the same browser, without including your name.
Messages
If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you send. Please avoid sending passwords, access tokens or unnecessary sensitive information.
How information is used
- Deliver articles, images and website features.

- Respond to enquiries, corrections and privacy requests.
- Protect the website, investigate abuse and meet applicable legal obligations.
Cookies and browser storage
Our Google Analytics setup uses a first-party cookie to recognise a pseudonymous browser visitor and maintain session information. This cookie can last up to one year and is renewed during measured visits. Umami’s tracking script does not use analytics cookies.
Previously saved analytics choices and supported browser privacy signals are respected. Preferences may remain in a cookie for about six months and in local storage until cleared. You can manage cookies and site storage through your browser settings. Clearing local data does not automatically delete information already received by providers, and you can continue reading regardless of your analytics preference.
Services and external links
We use external services to operate the website. Relevant services include:
- Cloudflare for hosting, delivery and website security.
- Google Analytics and Umami for website usage statistics.
- Cloudinary and other image hosts used by articles for image delivery.
- Email services for correspondence.
Providers receive information needed to deliver their services and may process it in other countries. We may also disclose information when necessary to meet legal obligations, protect rights or investigate abuse. External links lead to services with their own privacy practices.
Pi Browser account access
In Pi Browser, featherScroll uses Pi authentication to verify your account and personalise your welcome. When you authorise access, Pi provides an app-specific user ID, username and access token. Our server verifies the token with Pi.
The current reading sign-in requests your username, not wallet-address permission. We do not send your Pi username, user ID or access token to analytics services. Analytics can distinguish a Pi Browser visit or verified sign-in using a context flag; a separate cookie can hold that flag for up to 24 hours.
Pi account permissions are separate from analytics preferences and any applicable analytics consent requirements. Pi handles account information under its own policies; review the permissions shown in its interface before authorising access.
Retention and security
Cookies and saved browser preferences remain until they expire or you clear them. Analytics records and technical logs follow the relevant service and account retention settings. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to address the matter or meet record-keeping obligations.
We use HTTPS and measures intended to protect the website and information we handle. No system can guarantee complete security. Contact us if you need details about a particular record or retention period.
Privacy requests
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on it. You may also have a right to complain to a relevant data protection authority.

We will assess it within applicable time limits and coordinate with relevant service providers where appropriate. Independent third-party services handle requests under their own policies; some records may need to be retained for legal or security reasons.
Children’s privacy
featherScroll is a general-interest publication. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us and you have a privacy concern, contact us so we can review the circumstances and take appropriate action.
